The event will take place on May 5th, 2017 at the Inter-American Dialogue: 1155 15th St NW, Suite 800 Washington, DC 20005 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM (EST)

The effective promotion and protection of human rights through the Inter-American System depends on competent and qualified officials, transparency in the election process, and active participation on the part of civil society and the public at large. In this spirit, the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), the Due Process of Law Foundation (DPLF), the Open Society Justice Initiative, and the Inter-American Dialogue are pleased to host to an open forum with the six candidates nominated by the member states to serve on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

In this forum, the candidates will engage in an open discussion with participants about the main challenges relating to human rights in the Americas, civil society participation, and the future of the Inter-American System among other topics. Of the six candidates, three will be elected by the OAS member states at the forthcoming general assembly in Mexico City in June.

The candidates will also take questions from Twitter—submitted before or during the event—at #DiálogoCIDH.

Please note that this event will be held in Spanish.
